Children’s Privacy Notice
Effective October 6, 2026 · Notice version 2026-10-06.2 · Operated by Kemp Advisory Group, LLC
Our promise to parents
- Kids’ areas have no ads, no chat, no public profiles, no photo or voice uploads, and no purchases by children. A Kempbell Academy Membership membership can be bought only by a parent on a separate parent page.
- Children never type their own name, email, or other contact details. On every child screen, your child sees only a nickname picked from a list. The child’s first name is typed by you and is shown only to you, unless you choose to turn on the optional first-name sharing for approved friends.
- Nothing about your child is stored on our servers unless you create a parent account and give permission first.
- We never sell children’s information, use it for ads, or share it with third parties for their own use.
- Detailed learning activity is kept for one school year. In mid-June we email you a Year-End Progress Report, and on July 1 the detailed activity is deleted.
- You can review, change, or delete your child’s information, or withdraw your permission, at any time.
This Children’s Privacy Notice explains how Kemp Advisory Group, LLC (“we”) handles information about children under 13 on kempbellacademy.com, including Kempbell Academy. We wrote it with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the FTC’s COPPA Rule in mind. It adds to our Privacy Policy. We apply the same protections to every child learner, including those 13 and older.
1. Who is collecting the information
Kemp Advisory Group, LLC (operating Kempbell Academy)
Tyler, Texas
[Mailing address and phone number — add before launch]
Email: hello@kempbellacademy.com
Parents can contact us at this address with any question about their child’s information.
2. Our kids’ areas and what each one collects
| Area | What we collect about your child |
|---|---|
| Kempbell Academy games | Nothing. Scores stay in your own browser unless a parent signs the child in. |
| Kempbell Academy free practice (no learner profile) | Nothing is sent to us. Progress stays in the open browser tab on that device. |
| Kempbell Academy Learning Membership (learner profiles) | Only the items in section 3, and only after a parent creates the account and gives permission. |
3. Kempbell Academy learner profiles: what we collect and why
A parent (18+) creates the account, confirms their email address with a one-time sign-in code, and adds each child in the Parent Center, which is protected by a 4-digit Parent PIN. Children never create accounts or enter an email.
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| From the parent: email address, a Parent PIN (stored only in scrambled form), consent records, and up to 2 extra email addresses you choose to receive progress reports | To sign you in, protect the Parent Center, record your permission, and send the reports and notices you ask for |
| Child’s first name, typed by the parent | So your reports and emails say which child they are about. It is shown only to you (in the Parent Center, printed reports, and report emails) and is never shown on your child’s screens. |
| A nickname picked from our list (for example, “Sunny Bee”) | So your child can find their profile and be greeted. Kids see only this nickname. |
| Avatar choice (a built-in picture such as a crown or star) | So your child can recognize their profile |
| Grade (1–5) | To show lessons at the right level |
| Learning activity: answers marked right or wrong, the hint level used, number of tries, lesson steps finished, check and quiz scores, active learning time (only while the page is open and your child is using it), Stars (with an earn-and-spend history), badges, and writing drafts | To save progress, choose the next lesson, suggest review, and show you progress reports and the Year-End Progress Report |
| Skill levels remembered for next year (only if you turn on “Remember for next year”): a list of skills and standards with their final level | So Kempbell Academy can suggest review and a starting point in August |
| A random profile ID and technical data (such as IP address and browser type) received by our hosting providers | To keep the service running and secure. These are not used to contact your child or for advertising. |
We do not collect: a child’s last name, email, phone number, photo, video, voice recording, address, school, birthday, location, government ID, or biometric information. Read-aloud uses your device’s built-in voice and never turns on the microphone. We don’t ask a child for more information than an activity needs.
Automated suggestions
Kempbell Academy uses your child’s answers to suggest the next lesson or skill to practice and to show internal progress levels to you. These suggestions are only for learning inside Kempbell Academy. They are not used for advertising or marketing and are not shared with anyone.
4. Who can see it
- Other users never see your child’s information. There are no public profiles, leaderboards, or open messaging. The ONLY exception is the optional Friend Connection below, which is off unless you turn it on and has its own separate permission step.
- We do not sell, rent, or disclose children’s information to third parties for their own use, and we do not use it for advertising.
- These service providers process information only to run Kempbell Academy for us, and must keep it confidential and secure:
- Supabase, Inc.: database and parent sign-in
- Netlify, Inc.: website hosting and server functions
- Resend: sending the weekly progress emails and the Year-End Progress Report emails (these include your child’s first name, nickname, grade, and progress, and go only to the addresses you choose)
- Stripe, Inc.: payments for the parent’s membership only. Stripe never receives your child’s information.
- We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect a child’s safety.
If we ever want to share children’s information with a third party for any other reason, we will first ask for your separate permission. You can agree to collection without agreeing to any sharing.
Friend Connection (optional, off unless you turn it on)
Rocketeer Connections lets your family connect with one other family you choose so the children can send each other encouragement and study messages. It is an optional paid add-on, it is off for every child until you turn it on, and it has its own separate permission step in the Parent Center.
- How families connect: you create a one-time code in the Parent Center and give it to the other parent yourself (it expires in 24 hours). Both parents act before any connection exists. Children can never search for, browse, or find anyone, and can never send or accept an invitation.
- What the approved family can see about your child: their picked nickname, their avatar (the symbol they picked, or the cartoon Explorer they choose from our own art — never a photo), one earned badge they choose to feature, and the stickers, reactions, and messages they send. Never their last name, grade, school, city or location, learning progress, or anything else. Their first name is hidden by default. Only if you, their parent or legal guardian, give your affirmative consent by turning on “Show first name to approved friends” for that child in the Parent Center, we will disclose the first name you entered, and no other name, to the families you have already approved, shown in italics under their nickname. You may withdraw consent at any time, and we will then stop showing it to friends. Nothing here limits your rights under COPPA or other applicable law.
- Message safety: every message is checked on our server before the friend can see it. Messages containing personal information (names, phone numbers, addresses, schools, links, social media), unkind words, or anything unsafe are stopped. Grade 1 learners can only send pre-written stickers and built sentences, never typed messages.
- You see everything: the Parent Center shows every message your child sends and receives. You can hide any message, remove a friend, turn Friend Connection off for any child, or report a concern at any time. Your child can block or report a friend in one or two taps.
- How long: friend messages are kept for the school year and deleted in the July 1 clean-out. A friendship stays until a parent removes it, you withdraw permission, or the child’s profile is deleted — any of those also ends the sharing.
- Star sharing: a child may give a connected friend a few of their own Stars (at most 10 per friend per day). Giving is the only direction — nothing in Kempbell Academy lets a child ask for or request Stars — and every share shows in both children’s Star histories and both Parent Centers. The friend sees only the nickname she already sees.
5. How parents give permission
- The parent creates an account and confirms their email address with a one-time code.
- Before adding any child, the parent reads a short summary of this Notice in the Parent Center (with a link to this full Notice) and checks a box confirming they are the parent or legal guardian and give permission.
- We record the permission (the parent’s account, the date and time, and the Notice version; no IP address) and send a confirmation email that explains how to review, delete, or withdraw permission.
Because children’s information used for the lessons stays inside Kempbell Academy and is not disclosed to third parties for their own use, we use this “email plus” method for the lessons. The optional features that show a child’s information to another family (Friend Connection and first-name display) use a stronger method, verifiable parental consent: they are available only to memberships with a card on file, even if the family is never charged (for example a promo code or a Family & Friends code). We check the card with our payment provider, and we record the method, the date, and the membership the permission relied on. If we make a material change to this Notice, we will ask for permission again before the change applies to your child.
Until a parent gives permission, Kempbell Academy works only as free practice, and nothing about the child is sent to us.
6. Your rights as a parent
At any time you can:
- Review your child’s information and progress in the Parent Center (Progress, Standards, and Reports, including past Year-End Progress Reports), or ask us for a copy.
- Correct a first name, nickname, avatar, or grade in Parent Center › Children.
- Delete a child’s profile and all of that child’s information (learning activity, saved Year-End Progress Reports, and remembered skill levels) in Parent Center › Children.
- Withdraw permission in Parent Center › Settings › “Withdraw consent and delete all child data.” We stop collecting and immediately delete every child profile on the account and all of their information.
- Turn “Remember for next year” off at any time; the remembered skill levels are deleted right away.
You can do this yourself in the Parent Center, or email hello@kempbellacademy.com. We respond to email requests within 10 business days and complete deletions within 30 days (deletions you make in the Parent Center happen right away). To protect your child, we will confirm that a request really comes from the parent on the account before we share or delete anything.
7. How long we keep children’s information
We keep children’s information only as long as it’s needed for learning. A school year runs from August 1 to July 31 (Central Time).
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Learning activity: answers, hints, tries, lesson steps, check scores, active learning time, Stars, badges, and drafts | One school year. Around June 15 we email you a Year-End Progress Report for each child. On July 1 we save that year’s report and delete all other learning activity. |
| Year-End Progress Reports | While the account is active, so you can view past years in the Parent Center. Deleted when you delete the child or the account, withdraw permission, or the account becomes inactive. |
| Child profile (first name, nickname, avatar, grade) | While the account is active |
| Remembered skill levels (only with “Remember for next year” turned on; off by default) | Saved on July 1 and replaced each July 1. Deleted right away when you turn the setting off. |
| Inactive accounts (no sign-in for 24 months) | We email the parent a warning. If no one signs in within 30 days, we delete every child profile and all of their information. |
| When a parent deletes a child or withdraws permission | Deleted from our live systems right away. Backup copies kept by our database provider are erased within 30 days. |
| Consent records | Kept up to 3 years, to show permission was given or withdrawn. They contain the parent’s account, the date, and the Notice version, not the child’s information. |
8. How we protect it
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our database provider.
- Each family’s data is walled off at the database level, so a parent can see only their own family’s profiles.
- A Parent PIN guards the Parent Center, so children can’t change settings or see first names, and it locks again after 15 minutes.
- Only the people who need access to run Kempbell Academy have it.
- We review our security practices at least once a year. If a breach ever affected your child’s information, we would notify you as the law requires.
9. Rewards
Children earn Stars and badges for effort and progress (older “Points” became Stars, one for one), and can spend Stars in the “KA Shop” on cosmetic, in-app treats only (avatar frames and color themes). Children never see prices and can never buy anything. Parents can add bonus Stars from the Parent Center, and may also purchase optional “Star Gift” packs there with their own payment method; either way, to a child the Stars simply arrive as a gift from her parent — the learner experience contains no store, no prices, and no prompts to ask a parent to buy anything. Stars and KA Shop treats have no cash value and cannot be refunded for money. KA Shop treats are never shown to other children beyond the avatar friends already see. If your family uses Friend Connection, your child may share a few of their own Stars with a connected friend (at most 10 per friend per day, and only by giving — there is no way to ask for, request, or trade for Stars anywhere in Kempbell Academy); every share appears in both children’s Star histories, so both families can always see it. Parents can also set chores worth Stars; chore names are written by the parent and are visible only within that family. A child can see their Stars and a simple earn-and-spend history in “My Star Pack,” and parents can see the same. On July 1 we delete the year’s detailed Star history; the Star balance itself and any KA Shop treats are kept, like her avatar and nickname.
10. Changes
If we make a material change to how we collect, use, or share children’s information, we will notify parents by email, update the Notice version above, and ask for new permission before the change applies to their child.
